Food Services

Union School District's Food Services Program ensures that every student receives a well-balanced meal for breakfast and lunch. Our primary job is to provide meals that are both kid-friendly and healthy for all students and staff. We believe that there is a very important link between a healthy diet and academic performance. We offer all meals at no cost to the family. Breakfast and lunch are free under the Community Eligibility Provision. If your child attends any of our afterschool programs, we also provide ansnack at no charge.

Breakfast is served to the students in the classroom on a daily basis. This allows more students the opportunity to start their day off with good nutrition. We use low-sugar, whole-grain, and reduced-fat items throughout our menu as well as 1% white milk and nonfat milk options. Non-dairy milk is available to those with allergies so long as a doctor's note is provided. We are currently serving lunch in the classroom as well in order to minimize the spread of COVID-19. Each of our daily lunches contain a combination of whole grains, proteins, fruits, vegetables, and dairy to keep our students fueled for their day.

We utilize a nutrition analysis program called HealthEMeals. This helps us to ensure optimal nutrition at each meal. The total calories, fat, and sodium are located at the bottom of the daily menus. All of our menus are carefully planned to meet the USDA's National School Lunch and National School Breakfast Programs guidelines.

We have three food service managers: Leslie Matta at Dos Rios, Marlenne Pineda at Hurley Ranch, and Julie Ramirez at Union Elementary. We welcome any questions, comments, or concerns; please contact Kala Narramore, Food Service Director, at or by calling (623) 478-5010.

Special Assistance

Union School District Food Service Department qualified for a program through USDA called Special Assistance. It’s for districts with high free/reduced numbers. Periodically our district is required to complete a new meal application, the link can be found on this page. You will be notified if this will be needed for the school year.

The Union Elementary School District is committed to providing a school environment that promotes children's health, well-being, and ability to learn by supporting healthy eating and physical activity. To ensure the health and well-being of all students, the Union Elementary School District Governing Board has adopted a student wellness policy that guides the district in making healthy decisions for students.
